Reserva Natural Rio Bonito

In 2007 EALA purchased a finca with abandoned cacao plantations and extensive primary forest, in total some 34 hectares. The land is situated at the banks of the river rio Bonito near La Gamba, 15 kilometers from Golfito in the southern zone of Costa Rica. In 2009 EALA has extended the reserve with 4 hectares, in 2010 with 10 hectares and in 2011 with another 5 hectares. The Reserva Natural Rio Bonito was created and registered.

Small lakes have been restored and partial reforestation was undertaken with the help of the Tropical Research Station at La Gamba (http://www.lagamba.at/en/home.)

In February 2018 the reserve has been transferred to Rainforest of the Austrians to form part of their biological corridor COBIGA, see http://www.regenwald.at
